Yvonne Nelson, a Ghanaian actress, is currently trending after revealing that she was once pregnant for the rapper, Sarkodie. At the time, they were both up-and-coming, and they decided to allegedly terminate the pregnancy due to the uncertainty of their future.
In her maiden book, I Am Not Yvonne Nelson, she recounted her memories with the Tema-based rapper and how the alleged abortion ruined her memory lane.
After missing my monthly period, I went with Karen to take a pregnancy test to confirm what was already an obvious conclusion for a sexually active young woman. When the result was ready, I wasn’t strong enough to open it myself, so Karen opened it and declared the verdict.
“On an ordinary day, I would have laughed out loud and that would trigger a string of jolly conversations and jokes. But this was no laughing matter. It was a grim piece of information that was capable of turning my world upside down. I wasn’t the only one responsible for the situation, so I called the man whose potent seed had germinated in me. His name is Michael Owusu Addo,
a renowned Ghanaian musician who is better known as Sarkodie,” she further states in the book.
According to the actress, “Sarkodie was a budding musician with the potential to become one of the biggest artistes in Ghana and beyond. At the time, however, the future looked uncertain and his way through the maze of life still appeared too foggy to predict. Success was not guaranteed. He was still living with his mother and was not ready to carry a burden while he was being carried by his mother.”
That notwithstanding, Yvonne indicates that their relationship was not a serious one.
Having an abortion is one of the most regrettable mistakes in my life. If the clock of life could be rewound to my younger self, I would keep it. But the benefit of hindsight is sometimes not useful because the lessons learned cannot be applied retrospectively.”
“I don’t know how others who have been through it feel, but my abortion haunted me for years. For instance, whenever I visited the gynaecologist and had to fill out a form, there was a place on the form that asked whether I had had an abortion before. Knowing that it was important to be truthful in my disclosure to health professionals, I had to tick the abortion box. It was not just a tick, but the disclosure of my moment of shame in a judgmental society, sharing a dreaded piece of my secret with people whose perception of me might never be the same.

Yvonne Nelson has swiftly reacted to the new diss song aimed at her by her former lover Sarkodie over some claims she made about him in her popular autobiography, I am not Yvonne Nelson.
In a new song called Try Me, the legendary rapper presented his version of the events, claiming that even though he wasn’t ready at the time, he wanted her to keep the child but Yvonne refused on the grounds that she was in school.
Sarkodie talked about how he was in love with Yvonne Nelson for real, but it later turned out that he was probably only one of many guys who Yvonne had lined up like Cuban links.
He claimed that he had intended to keep that element of his life a secret until after his death, but he now feels compelled to do it because Yvonne Nelson disseminated a lie that serves her interests.
“I’m not going to lie, we had a thing. First, I thought we had a think until I had the hint that there were many guys. I tried to stay away but then you came that you were pregnant. But then I wasn’t ready but I told you to keep it.
“You told be you were schooling so you needed to complete it but till today, I don’t believe it. I told you to let my doctor take care of you and you sent a text later that your friend has recommended a one of the best doctors…
“So don’t you make it seem like I was the one pushing you for abortion. Baby girl make you no try me”, he raps on Try Me.
The song, as expected, became viral online. The actress was drawn to this, and she quickly refuted several of his assertions.
“Insults won’t work Michael, Respect womanhood. I’m happy the world gets to see how you are playing this and the real you. Young women get to learn from this. You would get the applause for a rap. still doesn’t change the truth,” she posted.
